Tivoli marks 90th anniversary with Amsterdam opening

Tivoli Hotels & Resorts has launched its first property in the Netherlands. Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel is considered to be the oldest hotel in the Dutch capital, a XVI century property overlooking the Amstel Canal.

The site, located in central Amsterdam, comprises 81 guestrooms – including seven suites – and a new gastronomic concept in its Omber restaurant and bar, inspired by the artwork of Rembrandt Van Rijn, a Dutch Golden Age painter.

Interiors have been designed to embody an old-world elegance, featuring pastel tones and splashes of red alongside touches of wood. A marble bathroom, meanwhile, offers amenities courtesy of French luxury brand Lalique.

Unique feature rooms include the 47m² Rembrandt Suite – where guests can view an exact replica of the artist’s The Night Watch, on the wall where the original hung for 70 years – and the Empress Suite, once the boudoir of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. The Empress Suite has a unique C-shape design to maximise canal views, while Dutch shields – a symbol of protection – are found on the ceiling.

The ground floor of the hotel is home to Omber, which serves up Mediterranean-Dutch fusion plates. Taking cues from colours in Rembrandt’s paintings, every dish on the menu contains an element inspired by the artist’s colour palette, while parts of the menu draw on his favourite dishes, like herring and pickles.

The March opening of Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel coincides with Tivoli’s 90th anniversary. Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, part of Minor Hotels, currently operates 17 properties in Portugal, Brazil, Qatar, China and The Netherlands.
