Rosewood is set to debut its first ski resort and second property in mainland France with Rosewood Courchevel Le Jardin Alpin, designed by Tristan Auer.

Located in the Jardin Alpin enclave of Courchevel 1850, with direct ski-in, ski-out access to Les Trois Vallées, the resort introduces a new expression of alpine luxury, where contemporary design, art and local craftsmanship combine in a mountain-inspired narrative.

Designed by French interior designer Tristan Auer as an eclectic chalet, the property is characterised by a contemporary and vibrant spirit and 1960’s Alpine glamour, featuring 51 rooms and suites, including three signature houses.

“We approached the project as though we were creating a private mansion chalet rather than a traditional hotel,” says Auer. “The idea was to capture the glamour of the mountains while transporting guests into another world – a place where every space invites them to experience and discover something beyond the expected.”

Drawing inspiration from Courchevel’s golden era of alpine travel, the interiors throughout embody exceptional workmanship and a deep resonance with nature through noble, tactile materials moulded by hand.

The façade is composed of Vals Quartzite quarried in the Swiss mountains, with warm wood and copper accents woven throughout. The entrance door is hand-carved using locally sourced wood, setting the tone for the exceptional artistry found throughout the hotel.

The property’s 51 rooms, suites and penthouses are crafted as refined alpine residences that connect seamlessly with the surrounding slopes. Each accommodation features a private seated terrace, extending the living space outdoors comfortably, allowing guests to take in sweeping views of the snow-covered peaks.

Select signature suites feature illuminated bars made from brushed Himalayan salt blocks angled to echo the silhouette of surrounding mountain ranges, introducing a softened warmth to the space. When lit, the salt reveals subtle transparencies and tonal variations, casting a gentle, diffused glow with custom-designed Carapace wall lights, also fashioned from Himalayan salt, reinforcing a sense of purity and craftmanship.

The property’s two two-bedroom penthouses offer a private retreat for up to four guests. In both, headboards are formed from hand-sculpted concrete shaped with a stone effect to imitate natural rock. Saulire House features a floating art installation by Italian fashion designer Christian Pellizzari, Rye Ergot, made from hand-blown Murano crystal and mirrored copper-coloured glass. Courchevel House reinterprets the traditional Alpine fireplace through a contemporary lens, combining bush-hammered bluestone and metallised, patinated brass.

The largest house, Jardin Alpin Apartment, features four bedrooms and accommodates up to eight guests. Designed by French architects Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty of Studio KO, the penthouse is accessed via private elevator, with expansive terraces overlooking the Sommet de la Saulire, a private cinema and a professional kitchen.

Rosewood Courchevel Le Jardin Alpin’s art collection is an integral part of the guest experience. Upon entering the lobby, guests encounter crystalline reflections from Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson’s installation – two harmonious yet different crystals sharing views and reflection – shimmering across mirrored walls, creating the illusion of floating geometric forms that seem to extend into infinity.

Behind the concierge desk, a bespoke artwork composed of chamotte stoneware and glass by French artist Amandine Haeghen celebrates nature as her primary source of inspiration. The Breccia marble staircase, lightly sandblasted and framed between two copper blades, creates a dramatic sculptural transition through the lobby.

On the first floor, a textile artwork by Morgane Baroghel-Crucq offers a contemporary interpretation of the ancient craft of weaving. The Cigar Lounge is a sculptural masterpiece itself, meant to evoke an inverted pinecone composed of copper scales and crafted by Studio MTX, part of Atelier Montex, a historic haute couture embroidery house recognised by Chanel’s Métiers d’Art. In the Ski Room, REFLECT by textile artist Elisa Strozyk forms a crystallised, reflective landscape through her signature wooden textile, echoing the surrounding alpine environment.

At the heart of the resort is Salto, a dynamic dining destination led by Chef Gioia Baek and inspired by the culinary flair of the Italian Alps. Evolving throughout the day, Salto serves as a vibrant hub which transitions into an elegant dining destination come the evening, presenting an alpine-inspired menu in a sophisticated atmosphere. Meanwhile, Salto Lounge offers a more intimate setting for night-cap cocktails.

The restaurant design echoes the wider hotel’s alpine craftsmanship. The base of the bar was sculpted with a chainsaw, evoking the work of mountain woodcutters, while the translucent glass bar top, infused with gold, is inspired by glaciers. The restaurant’s wooden floor uses the traditional end-grain technique found in historic chalets.

In terms of wellness, Asaya spa, Rosewood’s integrative wellness concept, debuts in Courchevel as a serene escape dedicated to personalised wellness and post-ski recovery. Designed to cultivate a soft and calming atmosphere, the spa’s reception counter is carved from a block of handhammered marble, evoking snow and ice. Guests can also browse the boutique or enjoy nourishing dishes and wellness drinks in the lounge.

The swimming pool is lined with a ceramic fresco inspired by glaciers, while a children’s cavern features tumbling waterfalls. A moon shaped light installation of Nebulite and polycarbonate casts a soft, calming glow that evokes natural cycles.

The spa is also home to a sauna, hammam, cold bath, jacuzzi, experience shower and fitness suite with the latest Technogym equipment and reformer pilates machines.

“With Rosewood Courchevel Le Jardin Alpin, we set out to create a destination that celebrates the joy of alpine life while delivering the curated experiences Rosewood guests expect,” concludes Managing Director Francois Arrighi. “It is a place to gather, explore and create lasting memories in one of the world’s most beautiful settings.”
