Viceroy at Ombria Algarve has revealed details of the resort’s new spa, set to open its doors in May 2025.

Set amid southern Portugal’s rolling Algarve hills, the spa will encompass a thermal pool, eight treatment rooms, beauty outlets such as a hairdresser and barber and an adjacent 144m2, state-of-the-art fitness centre.

Conceptualised in partnership with wellness visionary Greg Payne, the facilities have been sensitively designed to have a positive impact on guests’ physical, emotional, mental and social wellbeing.

Tony Machado, Head of Design at Highgate, says: “By honouring the history and culture of authentic Algarvian style through locally sourced materials and techniques that reflect the region’s heritage, the spa reflects Greg’s visionary approach to wellbeing and guests are invited to connect with the present moment on a deeper level.”

Viceroy at Ombria Algarve’s new wellness offering will also include a collection of curated spa programmes that incorporate holistic therapies, treatments and multi-day experiences, including ‘solar retreats’, which draw on ancient cultural tradition to celebrate the spring and autumn equinoxes.

“We’ve crafted a holistic wellness journey that ties the Algarve’s cultural essence to the fabric of each experience,” comments Spa and Wellness Consultant, Greg Payne. “Our intention is to offer something beyond the typical spa visit – something that inspires personal growth and reconnection, with nature, local traditions, and innovative treatments all woven seamlessly together.”

The resort’s eclectic range of experiences range from meditation and cacao ceremonies to breathwork and sound therapy sessions, in addition to basket weaving, tile painting and traditional pottery.

Elevating its wellness offering further, Viceroy has partnered with local artisanal growers and herbalists to develop a range of products which guests are encouraged to intuitively select and can be used across treatments.
