Viceroy has announced plans for The Harriman, a Viceroy Resort, set to open in June 2026 in downtown Ketchum, Idaho.
The resort marks the first luxury hotel and for-sale residence offering in Sun Valley, bringing Viceroy’s experiential hospitality to one of North America’s year-round mountain destinations.
The design team includes John Davis of Hornberger+Worstell (Architect of Record), Mark de Reus and Chris Strahle of de Reus Architects and Fatima Silva of FDG Design Group, a collaboration deeply attuned to the regional aesthetic of the Wood River Valley.
The property will offer 73 guestrooms and 12 single-level penthouse residences, all with sweeping views of Idaho’s Rocky Mountains. Guests and owners will enjoy personalised service and amenities including a 5,070ft2 full-service spa, a 1,130ft2 fitness centre, six treatment rooms, an indoor thermal pool, cold plunge, sauna and steam rooms.
A rooftop observatory and outdoor terrace bar will provide unobstructed access to the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve, the first designated preserve of its kind in the U.S. and one of only 12 globally.
The hotel will also serve as a gathering space for both guests and locals. A mountain-modern food and beverage programme will include a full-service restaurant, zinc-clad bar, café and ski concierge, seasonal terrace and bar, and 3,275ft2 of meeting and event space.
“Sun Valley is synonymous with American alpine heritage, and we are honored to celebrate that legacy through the Viceroy lens,” says Mark Keiser, President of Development at Viceroy. “This project exemplifies modern luxury defined by deep connection to place, thoughtful design, and immersive experiences.”
The Harriman is named in tribute to W. Averill Harriman, Chairman of the Union Pacific Railroad, who was instrumental in the creation of Sun Valley Resort in 1936. His goal was to find the ideal location in the American West to develop a European-style winter sports destination that could be easily serviced by the Union Pacific’s national rail network.
“The Harriman is a tribute to Sun Valley’s past, but it’s also shaping its future. We want to honour this place’s history while creating something lasting for generations to come” adds Andrew Blank, majority owner of the project. “This project is deeply personal for me. My family has been connected to Sun Valley for over 50 years, and The Harriman is a celebration of Mr. Harriman’s legacy and a way to reimagine it for a new generation.”
