Dedon presents range of hanging loungers

Guided by the philosophy that outdoor living is an invitation to slow down, reconnect with nature and rediscover the pleasure of expanded time, Dedon presents its range of hanging loungers, designed by Daniel Pouzet and Stephen Burks.

Inspired by nests hanging among the trees in the forests of Costa Rica, Nestrest emerges as one of the brand’s most emblematic loungers. Building on the basket base of Nestrest, Pouzet later developed a wider, airier seat for the Swingrest series, that is visually less imposing.

Made using the special four-centimetre-wide Dedon Fiber Touch, Nestrest features a single, large mattress cushion, luxuriously embellished and made even more comfortable and inviting by an array of smaller cushions strewn over the main one.

Swingrest offers a range of seating configurations to provide a versatile suspended lounge system, suited for installation on terraces and verandas as well as in indoor settings. It features a refined suspension system and a 180° rotating side table, enhancing both functionality and comfort.

SwingMe and SwingUs retain the elegance of form and the distinctive appeal of the original Swingrest, reinterpreted on a more compact and intimate scale while optional curtains allow the seat to be transformed into a private retreat.

Together, the loungers – available in Natural, Chalk and Olive finishes – offer two complementary interpretations of outdoor space – one is a true suspended cocoon, while the other offers a more open and dynamic system, designed for gentle swinging immersed in the landscape.

Kida, Swingrest

Meanwhile, the Kida hanging lounge chair, designed by Burks, redefines a relatively unexplored typology in contemporary outdoor design while remaining deeply rooted in American material culture. Kida thus becomes a bridge between tradition and experimentation, between craftsmanship and design vision.

With Kida, Burks reinterprets the archetype of the swing, drawing from American vernacular tradition. The seat, with its organic and welcoming shape, evokes a suspended cradle an invitation to be gently rocked, surrounded by soft surfaces and a sense of absolute lightness. “The swing is a way to attach yourself to a piece of nature, like a tree, and just flow, be very natural, very comfortable, enjoy the breeze,” comments the designer.

Burks also emphasises that design is a process of shared learning: the exchange with artisans is not merely collaboration, but a continuous flow of knowledge. It is precisely from this relationship that the idea of a fully “wrapped” structure emerged – one that fully expresses the potential of the fibre.

The Kida project stems from a direct dialogue between Stephen Burks and the artisans of Cebu – an island in the Philippines where weaving is a deeply rooted tradition passed down through generations. Within Dedon, this heritage lives on through the work of master artisans, capable of transforming fibre into objects of remarkable precision and beauty.

Through a combination of techniques and materials, weavers create surfaces ranging from light and airy patterns to denser, more compact structures.

Each piece thus becomes unique. A single element may require up to 1,700 yards of fibre and over 60 hours of manual craftsmanship, in a process that merges contemporary technology with traditional savoir-faire.

Kida was initially conceived as a woven structure, before evolving into an innovative solution: an open frame entirely wrapped in 834 meters of Dedon Fiber Touch. Furthermore, the structure of Nestrest is made with a specially developed four-centimetre-wide fibre that creates a weave that is solid yet open and breathable ensuring privacy without sacrificing outward views.

“For me, it’s more about creating suggestions,” concludes Daniel Pouzet. “The idea is to suggest spaces without building walls, creating light transparent separations, working on the light, on the sound, and recreating a suggestion of those kinds of places: a luxury resort.”
