Swedish concept and design agency Stylt Trampoli has been awarded the Prix Versailles for its interior design at Spedition Hotel & Restaurant, in the Swiss town of Thun.

”We are completely stunned that we won,” comments Stylt founder and creative leader Erik Nissen Johansen, ”especially as the competition consisted of some of our greatest heroes.”

Among the nominated in the same category were Philippe Starck, Rockwell Group and Yabu Pushelberg, with the award presented by Minja Yang, Deputy Director of the World Heritage Centre, and François de Mazieres, Mayor of Versailles, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

Prix Versailles is a global award recognising excellence in commercial architecture such as hotels, stores and restaurants, with the criteria being the erasure of perceived differences between commercial and cultural architecture, and the creation of a new paradigm with sustainability and social and cultural values as the focus.

For the winning project, Stylt Trampoli was asked to transform a former cheese factory into a personal boutique hotel by the property owner Credit Suisse. The hotel is run by a local team headed by the Swiss hotelier Manfred Weilguni.

Within the century-old building the firm has created a hotel experience defined by atmospheric lighting, a moody, muted colour scheme and surprising persona details – a far cry from the area’s typical chalet style.
