Bamo expands with opening of Barcelona and Miami studios
Bamo has expanded its global footprint with new studios in Barcelona and Miami in a strategic expansion that strengthens the firm’s presence in two culturally vibrant regions.
The Barcelona studio, led by Associate Principal Martin Östlund, builds on Bamo’s strong European portfolio, including the Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, Grand Hotel a Villa Feltrinelli and Lake Como’s Passalacqua.
Known for his global perspective and contextual design approach, Östlund combines contemporary aesthetics with technological innovation and refined craftsmanship to deliver bold, forward-thinking projects worldwide.
In Miami, Bamo welcomes Natalia Sicilia as Studio Director, bringing a dynamic new chapter to the firm’s growth in the Southeast and Latin America. Sicilia’s expertise in branded residences and luxury hospitality enhances the interior design studio’s ability to serve its expanding client base in the region, while fostering stronger, more agile collaboration on the ground.
As Bamo expands its presence to Miami, the studio is slated to lead a series of distinctive, high-profile residential projects in partnership with Property Markets Group (PMG) and Related Group Florida.
The firm is designing the interiors for Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Residences Miami – a spiralling, nine-cube tower that will be the tallest residential building south of New York and redefine the Miami skyline. Inspired by the feeling of living in the sky, Bamo’s interiors express a transcendent, contemporary vision with soft tonal palettes drawn from the city’s shifting coastal light.
Also underway with PMG in Fort Lauderdale is Sage Intracoastal, the second property under PMG’s soft brand Sage. This waterfront development seeks to evoke the opulence of a private yacht, with a relaxed yet polished design that emphasises effortless style, seamless indoor-outdoor living and a strong connection to place.
Further up the coast, Waldorf Astoria Residences Pompano Beach, developed by Related Group, combines beachside ease with a serene, sophisticated aesthetic.
On Florida’s Gulf Coast, Bamo is currently designing the Waldorf Astoria Residences St Petersburg for PMG, set to become the city’s tallest building and its first branded luxury residence. Slated to open in 2030, the design draws from the local art scene and celebrates panoramic bay views and tasteful, finely detailed interiors.
“Florida offers an incredible range of opportunities to create distinct residential and hospitality experiences, each shaped by the culture, climate and character of its location,” says Anne Wilkinson, Principal at BAMO. “From the vibrant energy of Miami to the tranquillity of the Gulf Coast, we’re proud to work alongside visionary partners across the state. Together, these projects reflect our commitment to crafting singular residences that are deeply connected to their environment and designed for enduring beauty, comfort and ease.”
The firm has also recently completed the design for the Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, in a scheme which honours the grandeur of the city’s architectural heritage while ushering it into the present with restraint, artistry and reverence. Housed within the historic Palacio de La Equitativa and six adjacent buildings, the adaptive reuse property melds ornate 19th-century detailing with contemporary Spanish sophistication.
Design details include a sinuous staircase at the heart of the hotel, anchoring the main atrium and showcasing an art installation by Eduardo Pérez-Cabrero, as well as original elements from the former Banco Español de Crédito, including green marble columns and stained-glass windows that have been carefully preserved to serve as the backdrop to the hotel’s grand lobby.
Individually tailored guest rooms and suites meanwhile are designed to evoke the spirit of a classic Madrid apartment, blending custom furnishings by Spanish artisans with thoughtful nods to the building’s layered past.
Reflecting on the interior design studio’s global expansion, Wilkinson concludes: “Barcelona and Miami represent more than geographic expansion; they reflect the design culture and creative energy that inspire us. These studios allow us the opportunity to be connected, more responsive, and more creatively engaged. It’s a natural evolution of our global practice.”
