Curtis Furniture carries out Treehouse Hotel Manchester fit-out
Curtis Furniture was appointed by Starwood Hotels to produce bespoke bedroom, bathroom and kitchen furniture for 224 guestrooms and suites across the 12-storey Treehouse Hotel Manchester.
Described as a ‘playground’ for grown-ups, the 12-storey hotel in the heart of Manchester blends spontaneity, comfort and creativity, with every room designed as a celebration of childhood imagination – delivered with a design-led twist.
To meet the brief, the UK-based furniture company conducted a rigorous, multi-phase sampling process in partnership with 93 Feet and Starwood Hotels.
Key to the desired look and feel for the space was to use distressed wood, featuring bumps, knocks and knots, for the cased goods including headboards, bedside tables, wardrobes, desks, vanity units and shelving.

To achieve this, Curtis Furniture developed a specific manufacturing process to guarantee the wood selected and treated for the furniture wouldn’t splinter or split, ensuring its longevity and keeping customer safety in mind. Each piece of furniture was prototyped and tested to guarantee consistency and quality across the full rollout.
Among the most intricate custom elements was a rotating TV box. Set within a shelving frame made of scaffolding poles and distressed wood, it allows guests to swivel the screen between the bedroom and lounge areas.
The mechanism needed to rotate smoothly while stopping short of a full 360° turn to protect hidden electrical cabling. With nothing suitable readily available on the market, Curtis Furniture engineered a bespoke solution to the challenge.
Meanwhile, in the guestroom bathrooms, additional innovation was required to craft tailor-made vanity units. They featured a counter made of the same distressed finish as was applied in the living and bedroom areas, fitted with a sink and a solid oak slatted shelf.
The unit was supported by two ropes suspended from the ceiling, to recreate a playground swing-style. Reinforced steel bar towel rails completed the design, treated to ensure they remain rust-free and durable for years to come.
Curtis Furniture was appointed to build the furniture and worked closely with the installation team throughout the fit-out stage. Local installation managers from Curtis Furniture remained on-hand to answer questions about the finite details of the design and how that needed to translate to the fitting process, to ensure a comprehensive, streamlined process that saw the guest rooms come to life.

Callum Preece, Account Manager for Curtis Furniture, comments: “This has been a project many years in the making. Throughout, we’ve worked in strategic partnership with both 93 Feet and Starwood Hotels to bring their truly unique vision to life. The use of distressed wood across the rooms’ case goods required an intensive treatment process to achieve such a striking finish, while bespoke features like the rotating TV box and bathroom vanity units were a brilliant demonstration of our commitment to innovation.”
The Treehouse Hotel Manchester is the third of its kind, following the successful launches of Treehouse Hotel London, and Treehouse Hotel Silicon Valley. This latest property sets a new standard for immersive, imaginative hospitality, with Curtis Furniture having played a central role in bringing it to life.
