KLAFS sauna at Holzhotel Forsthofalm in Austria

Klafs gives its thoughts on the future of wellness suites

The Covid-19 pandemic has abruptly changed every thought of holiday, travelling and wellness. As such, the words cocooning, security and privacy are not only becoming part of our everyday life, but are also moving into the hotel industry and will likely be around for a while to come, according to Klafs.

Where and under what conditions will hotel guests feel safe and comfortable in future?

In future, hoteliers will have to answer this question. Enjoying a sauna and wellness in the comfort of your own hotel room instead of in a wellness area is one possible solution to increasing uncertainty.

Wellness suites offer a completely private place where guests can relax undisturbed on their own schedule. Whether it’s enjoying an in-room sauna or taking in breathtaking views while soaking in a bathtub, wellness suites are a privilege of peace and safety – which is highly valued by guests during these times.

When the hotel room becomes a wellness oasis

Hotel rooms are changing. The time in the room is no longer just limited to a quick shower between exploring the city and using the wellness area – the room is increasingly becoming its own wellness area. Equipped with a sauna, spacious showers or a freestanding bathtub, private quarters can offer everything that a relaxing retreat needs, with the advantage of complete tranquillity. Given the Covid-19 pandemic, taking a sauna in your own room, whether alone, with a partner or with family, further provides a feeling of safety.

In the redesigned hotel rooms of Wohn.Reich – located adjacent to Reber’s Pflug in Schwäbisch Hall, where Hans-Harald Reber serves haute cuisine – guests can unwind using Klafs’ custom sauna

In addition to having a sauna on a balcony or terrace, there are also possibilities inside a hotel room to accommodate a small yet powerful sauna. A custom-built solution from Klafs can be customised to a room’s dimensions; corners, niches and sloped ceilings can be optimally utilised and become a place of well-being.

Using spaces smartly – The Sauna S1 saves a lot of space

The Sauna S1 from Klafs presents another possibility for taking a private sauna into hotel rooms with limited square footage. The system uses space smartly and fits into suites like a piece of furniture; in the closed condition when the sauna is not being used, it is no larger than a standard wall cabinet with a depth of 60cm. Within 20 seconds, it can be extended into a fully functional sauna at the push of a button.

“In future, individual suites and rooms will be raised to a higher level of exclusivity through the installation of a sauna cabin, creating small but precious private spa areas”, says Michael Bauer of Klafs, who regularly speaks to hoteliers helping shape the future. “In addition to a private sauna, a wellness suite often offers guests a steam bath or a whirlpool in the room as well. To create even more options for health-promoting relaxation in one’s individual world of wellness, we recommend additional features in the sauna cabin. An infra-red seat or the Sanarium, for example, which allows for five different climate zones in a sauna.”

One thing was clear for Rietberg-based entrepreneur Benjamin Sari: his newly-built motel was to offer a high level of comfort. The known benefits of a motel, such as the ease of accessibility on the outskirts of a city, have also been retained, while a 24/7 booking machine offers business travellers greater flexibility.

What is quite different, however, is the outfitting of Motel24’s interiors, which allow guests to relax in complete privacy after a long day at work. And to take that relaxation to the next level, rooms include a Klafs sauna made from walnut wood as well as a freestanding bathtub. “We offer our guests the most comfortable and smooth stay without forgoing quality and comfort. That is why we chose Klafs saunas,” says Sari.
