Drift completes Palm Springs hotel

Drift Hotels has unveiled its new Palm Springs property, set to open from April. Infused with the brand’s signature industrial-chic and Mid-Century touches, the downtown Palm Springs development will mark TMC Hospitality’s third Drift Hotels site.

Designed in partnership with Folklor and O2 Architecture, Drift Palm Springs fuses Spanish Colonial and Moorish desert architecture with art and furniture by notable designers including Waka-Waka and Sean Spellman. Interiors make use of Italian brick and cedar, while a subtle architectural emphasis is placed on forms and colours that reflect and preserve the desert environment.

Guestrooms and suites – which range up to 1620ft² – spotlight earthy tones and organic materials like steel and birch wood, a contrast to intermittent pops of rose and olive green throughout. Guests will find additional amenities like custom-scented bath products with notes of desert marigold and sandalwood, spacious balconies or patios with hammocks and handmade furnishings and décor from Mexican artisans like Luteca, Minna and Veta.

“Drift was designed for the modern traveller by providing attainable, well-designed accommodations that stand out from the sea of same; engineered through efficient tech, innovative operating models, thoughtful restraint and clever design,” says Philip Bates, co-founder and CEO of California-based TMC Hospitality. “The hotel honours the magic of the desert while introducing new bespoke experiences, style and service to downtown Palm Springs.”

The property is also home to two adjoining eateries, Maleza and Drift Pool Bar. Maleza, an all-day, upscale Baja restaurant, features a sleek wraparound bar and floor-to-ceiling garage doors leading to a relaxed outdoor lounge. Drift Pool Bar meanwhile caters to guests as they lounge by the pool, which is accentuated by eight custom daybeds and loungers overlooking the San Jacinto mountains.

The hotel’s Desert Lawn brings additional communal space, with fire pits and a cacti fence creating a cosy, intimate feel, while a second-floor event space overlooking the pool provides a setting for more formal get-togethers.
