Mantra Samui unveils new look

Mantra Samui, an ocean-view resort on Thailand’s Koh Samui Island, will reveal its new look in early 2017 after extensive renovations to its lobby, spa, pool and guestrooms.

Overseen by design firms Tierra Design, Habros Design and Terra Architects, the changes begin at arrival, where Indigenous trees and plants will frame the road to the hotel, and a water feature will add a new dimension of appeal to the lush surrounds. Inside, the lobby will feature a lofty, tiered ceiling reminiscent of traditional Thai house and a verdant, five-meter high vertical garden that references the island’s natural beauty.

The leading guestroom categories of the hotel will feature natural wood furnishings and contemporary artwork, while bathrooms will offer his and hers sinks and a spacious rain shower. Each 721ft² guestroom will incorporate an earthy colour palette with prominent creams and browns, with splashes of ocean blue in the furnishings, decor and couches. Elsewhere, terracing will enclose sizeable balconies in order to provide more seclusion.

A panoramic view of the Gulf of Thailand will beckon guests to the infinity edge pool, which will feature a new swim up bar, and a more spacious pool deck finished in white marble, as well as a new saltwater filtration system.

The existing squash courts have been converted into an elegant new spa, titled Jai. With three single and one double treatment room, and a foot reflexology treatment area, guests will be able to indulge in a range of traditional Thai massages, facials and body scrubs. New mood lighting and high ceilings will provide a sense of space and tranquility, while bamboo cladding will connect guests to the lush greens of the island. At the middle level of the hillside resort, a newly refurbished lounge area will provide guests with a relaxed air-conditioned space from which to enjoy the views.

“With such extensive changes throughout the property, we almost feel like a brand new hotel,” comments Akira Park, General Manager. “And with all these new efforts to drive sustainability, we feel like we’re really moving in the right direction.”
