Langham Hospitality Group has unveiled plans to debut a new hotel in Venice, the brand’s first Italian project.

Located on the southeastern shore of Murano, the 138-key property will take over a historic Venetian building dating back to the 17th century, which housed the former Casino Mocenigo.

Matteo Thun & Partners, known for embracing sustainability ideals and aesthetic simplicity, will oversee the extensive renovations. For the guestrooms and public spaces, the Milan-based architecture and design studio will draw design inspiration from the hotel’s rich history, resplendent frescoes and water views. The courtyard will be a defining architectural feature, showcasing the outdoor dining spaces, swimming pool and gardens.

The food and beverage offering will include two restaurants serving a selection of cuisines as well as a cooking school, where guests can learn the art of fine Italian cuisine. In addition to dining experiences, the project will also feature alfresco bars, one of which will sit on the rooftop looking out across the Venetian Lagoon.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s leisure and wellness facilities will feature Langham’s signature Chuan Spa and provide treatments based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, a fitness centre, a ballroom and multifunctional rooms.

The upcoming Venetian project marks a significant breakthrough in Langham’s European expansion strategy as the brand’s third property in Europe.

“The opening of The Langham, Venice will be an important milestone for the brand as we continue to cultivate our presence in Europe,” comments Chief Executive Officer Stefan Leser. “We look forward to elevating our guests’ extraordinary experiences at this spectacular hotel, and we are proud to play a part in upholding the fine traditions of Venetian luxury hospitality.”

Among 30 future locations in the pipeline are hotels and residences in Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, San Francisco, Jakarta and Chengdu.
