Set on the island of Lidingö in the northeast of Stockholm’s inner archipelago, Ellery Beach House will become ESS Group’s tenth Scandinavian hotel when it opens its doors at the end of August.

“Looking ahead to our 10th destination gives us so much wonderful energy right now! This project, together with the support of all guests and partners, means everything,” says CEO Jonas Stenberg.

“We have been working with Ellery for almost three years now and nothing will stop this launch. The place at the far end of this cape is like a dream and we are sickly tagged, positively nervous and determined to deliver a new kind of destination to Stockholm.”

Drawing inspiration from the 50s and 60s, the 122-room resort will feature two restaurants and three bars, 14 meeting rooms and a 250-capacity conference space, activities such as table tennis, billiards, pinball and shuffle boards, together with two paddle courts, several swimming pools and a pool club.

“If I were to try to describe the feeling and experience that we are trying to create, I would start by saying close my eyes! And then I would ask you to think of a messy and charming mix of Malibu, Mad Men, photographer Slim Aarons, drunken sportsman and Beyonce,” Stenberg continues.

The management team behind the SEK 270 million project – formerly named Blue Hotel – includes Daniel Franzén, former CEO of Tak; Sebastian Martinez from Hotel D’Angleterre in Copenhagen, Carolina Blom, whose most recent position was at the Stockholm Furniture Fair; Linette Johansson, who was responsible for Steam Hotel’s Voltage Lounge; and Cecilia Bolandrina from American Swedish clothing brand Gant. Acclaimed chef Frida Nilsson from MJ’s is responsible for the food concept.

Joel Singer, CEO of Ellery Beach House, adds: “I myself come from Marshall (Zound Industries) and know nothing about hotels but have music, lots of ideas and an international experience with me. The awesome gang in the management team complement each other and me in a way that means that we will really reach the goal with the vision of a new kind of destination resort.”
